To make sure your work meets all contractual requirements (from PHS's Data Use Agreements), is easy for other researchers to find and cite, and is counted by Stanford, there are 3 items you must make sure to include in your research outputs:
All manuscripts (and other items you'd like to publish/share) that use PHS data must be submitted to support@stanfordphs.freshdesk.com for approval prior to journal/conference submission. We will perform a security and citation check, and forward the manuscript to the data owner if they require it (they perform reviews primarily to check whether the database was appropriately cited--not to do a scientific review).
We would be grateful if scientific publications resulting from projects that make use of the PHS Data Core infrastructure would include the following sentence in the acknowledgments section:
Data for this project were accessed using the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences Data Core. The PHS Data Core is supported by a National Institutes of Health National Center for Advancing Translational Science Clinical and Translational Science Award (UL1TR003142) and from Internal Stanford funding. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the NIH.
Please (1) refer to this data as follows depending on which database you used (alternatives and additional guidance can be found ☞ here):
*Note: The symbol next to 'Merative' is the trademark symbol, and the symbol next to 'Marketscan' is the registered trademark symbol.
Please also (2) include the following text somewhere in your paper (such as in the an Attributions or Acknowledgements section, or wherever else seems logical/feasible):
Certain data were supplied by Merative as part of one or more MarketScan Research Databases. Any analysis, interpretation, or conclusion based on these data is solely that of the authors and not Merative.
In addition to review by PHS, some manuscripts (and other items you'd like to publish/share) that use the MarketScan dataset will also need to be reviewed by Merative prior to journal/conference submission if you are seeking to publish results at geographic units smaller than region. In those cases, we will forward your manuscript to the Merative representatives on your behalf when we receive your submission at support@stanfordphs.freshdesk.com .
Please introduce AFC as the American Family Cohort or the PRIME Cohort.
All AFC manuscripts (and other items you'd like to publish) need to be reviewed by PHS prior to journal/conference submission.
Please (1) refer to the data as follows (additional guidance can be found ☞ here):
Please also (2) include the following citation/disclaimer in an appropriate section of your Manuscript:
© [year of publication of Company Materials] Komodo Health, Inc. All rights reserved. Reproduction, distribution, transmission or publication is prohibited. Reprinted with permission.
All manuscripts (and other items you'd like to publish/share) that use the Komodo dataset do need to be reviewed by PHS and Komodo Health prior to journal/conference submission, so we will forward your manuscript to the Komodo Health representatives on your behalf when we receive your submission at support@stanfordphs.freshdesk.com .
Please include the following text in your Methods section:
Clinformatics® Data Mart Database (MN) is a de-identified database is derived from a large adjudicated claims data warehouse.
*Note: The symbol next to 'Clinformatics' is the registered trademark symbol.
All manuscripts (and other items you'd like to publish/share) that use the Optum dataset do need to be reviewed by PHS and Optum prior to journal/conference submission, so we will forward your manuscript to the Optum representatives on your behalf when we receive your submission at support@stanfordphs.freshdesk.com .
Please introduce them using the full name given on the dataset page on the PHS Data Portal.
All manuscripts (and other items you'd like to publish/share) using PHS data need to be reviewed by PHS prior to journal/conference submission. Please send your materials to support@stanfordphs.freshdesk.com , and allow 5-10 days for review.
A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a unique name/code that has been assigned to an object--that object can be digital, physical or abstract--and can be used to refer to that object. DOIs make it easier to cite objects (such as datasets) when they have been used for research or other projects.
*Note: For Optum, the DOIs can be found here. For every other dataset, please follow the instructions below.
Make sure confirm the papers that are yours when ORCID sends you emails asking if you authored them. This ensures that your work is included in your record, and makes it easier for others to find and cite your work.
