Slack Channels

Our Slack workgroup is called: PHS Data Users (☞ how to join a workgroup)

We have several channels dedicated to answer your questions about our infrastructure (☞ how to join a channel). These channels are monitored by our staffs at the Stanford Population Health Sciences (PHS), Stanford Research Computing Center (SRCC) and Redivis team.

  • #access-admin - for questions regarding the data access
  • #redivis - for questions regarding issues on the PHS Data Portal
  • #nero- for questions regarding issues on Nero
  • #phs-windows - for questions regarding issues on the PHS-Windows server
  • #phs-linux - for questions regarding issues on the PHS-Linux server
  • #general - for general questions, that do not fit in any other channel

We also have data-specific channels to answer your specific questions regarding our datasets:

  • #claims - for questions regarding the Optum, IBM® MarketScan® Research and CMS datasets
  • #ipums - for questions regarding the IPUMS or census data
  • #datapartners - for questions regarding other datasets (e.g., Born in Bradford UK cohort, Clalit Israeli healthcare system, Danish registries, Recetox, and so on)

It is a courtesy to spend a bit of your time searching for a past conversation in Slack before typing your question in the channel. It will save both of our time!

:: GUIDELINES FOR POSTING A QUESTION ::

A) Be as specific as you can in describing the problem or formulating a question.

  • Explain what you have tried before and why that did not work.
  • Do not use abbreviations, be sure to have them defined previously.
  • Include a sufficient context information so we and other readers can understand the problem and the goal.

B) NEVER post a screenshot of the data on Slack due to privacy and security concerns.

C) Be respectful of others (☞ see Stanford Code of Conduct)

PHS Data Portal Documentation

The PHS Data Portal is powered by ☞ Redivis and we will refer to ☞ the official documentation for more details.

PHS Office Hours

We provide PHS Office Hours for a direct consultation. An appointment is required and can be made through Calendly app ☞ https://calendly.com/phsdatacore/

Please be aware that we don't always have many slots for the office hours due to our limited resources, and therefore this option is the slowest way to get your questions answered. The Slack channels are the quickest.

It is also important to note that we don't accept research-specific questions (e.g., how a method works, how to implement formulas in code, how to do the data analyses, and so on). Please refer these questions to a bigger audience.

SRCC Office Hours

Appointments regarding Sherlock and Nero (including the Nero demo session) can be made through Calendly app that you can pick from the following link ☞ https://calendly.com/srcc-officehours
